What is that in thine hand?
And the LORD said unto him, What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod. - Exodus 4:2
Moses felt overwhelmed as he spoke to God, expressing his fear that the children of Israel would not believe him when he went to them that God had appeared to him and sent him to deliver them. In a moment of gentle reassurance, God asked him what he was holding in his hand. When Moses replied that it was a rod, God asked him to throw it to the ground. Miraculously, the rod transformed into a serpent, prompting Moses to flee in fear. This powerful demonstration was God’s way of showing Moses that He truly had called him to rescue His people from Pharaoh and bring them out of Egypt. It’s important to realise that if Moses had hesitated to follow God’s command, that extraordinary transformation would never have happened.
The Lesson:
You may find yourself feeling called by God, with a vision in your heart that could bring immense blessings to those around you, the church, or even to nations. It’s completely understandable to feel unsure or apprehensive about how to make that vision a reality. However, it's vital to recognise that if you don’t take those first steps with what you have in hand, others may struggle to see the calling you hold. Dreams and visions cannot come to life through idleness or daydreaming—taking action, no matter how small, is crucial.
You don’t need to wait for a grand opportunity or significant resources to start pursuing the vision God has placed in your heart. It’s often the small acts and efforts that create a ripple effect, allowing others to see God’s work through you. If you overlook the opportunities currently available to you, you may find that larger chances slip away.
Understand that what you do with the little you have now speaks volumes about how you’ll embrace the bigger opportunities that lie ahead. It can be hard to believe that your current efforts matter, but they truly do—every step counts. By nurturing those small beginnings, you’re paving the way for a greater impact in the lives of others, showing them that God has indeed called and equipped you for this purpose. Keep moving forward; you’re not alone in this.
