Following Jesus: The ultimate adventure


Then Peter said, "Lo, we have left all and followed you." Jesus replied, "Verily, I say unto you, no man has left house, parents, brethren, wife, or children for the kingdom of God’s sake." (Luke 18:28-29)

Peter expressed to Jesus that he and the other disciples had given up everything to follow Him. Jesus Christ is the most precious and greatest figure, both in heaven and on earth, worthy of all our devotion. It is wise to view our possessions as insignificant compared to knowing and following Him. The personal journey of following Jesus to understand and please Him is the most honourable adventure we can embark on. Nothing, including life's challenges, should deter us from this incredible pursuit.

Jesus calls us to follow Him, not to allow our problems to overwhelm us or keep us mired in struggles that only He can resolve. Trusting in Jesus—placing our faith in Him through our troubles—means surrendering our worries and allowing Him to carry them. It involves casting our burdens on Him and trusting Him to lift them. Continually wrestling with problems we cannot solve is unproductive when we can seek His strength and wisdom.

We cannot fully follow Jesus with all our hearts, souls, and strength if we allow our challenges to take precedence over our Lord. Our growth in knowing Him, our faith, and our obedience to His guidance must be our highest priorities. Nothing should stand in the way of our daily pursuit of these ideals.

No challenge should impede our spiritual growth or divert us from following Jesus Christ. Commitment to Jesus is a lifelong journey, and none of our challenges should interfere. The mountains before us are mere obstacles that pale in comparison to Jesus Christ. When we recognise that following Him is more essential than our pressing needs, we will prioritise this pursuit and cast our burdens upon Him in prayer, letting Him handle our challenges.

The Word became Answer RSV, John 1:14: "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth; we have beheld his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father." The Word, or Logos, became human as God's response to our need for salvation, addressing all our spiritual needs and the limitations we face as humans. The written word, the scriptures, is also provided by God to meet our needs. However, many struggle to find answers to their challenges in the scriptures due to their lack of understanding of them.
