Where is your faith?

Where is your faith?

And He said unto them, “Where is your faith?” And they, being afraid, wondered, saying one to another, “What manner of man is this! For He commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey Him.” (Luke 8:25)

Jesus Christ was inquiring about the faith of His disciples in Him amidst their fear. Similarly, God is asking us today: where is our faith in Him in the face of fears? Why do we so easily stray from faith and forget God's faithfulness when confronted with challenges that seem greater than our strength? For some, faith vanishes in times of trouble, and all the scriptures they know seem to disappear from their hearts. God is asking for our faith to help us turn our troubles into triumphs and our messes into messages. Many times, God doesn't find this faith, which prevents Him from helping us, causing us to remain longer in our difficulties.

So, where is your faith in the few words of God that you know? You don’t need to possess an extensive knowledge of the scriptures to have faith in God; even a little faith can move mountains. If you put your faith in God, even with the little knowledge of the Scriptures you have, He will demonstrate that He is not a respecter of persons but values every faith that is exercised towards Him. He will strengthen you and enable you to overcome your challenges. We must also strive to continue growing our faith through the scriptures and through every situation that God takes us through, so that we will be able to stand boldly without fear and prevail over every scheming and work of the devil. Faith is our power, strength, and driving force; without it, God remains noncommittal to anyone. It is our faith in God that determines how God relates to us and the value He places on our fellowship and service.

It is the faith that fuels passion for prayer, for worship, and for service, motivating us to seek Him. If your faith in God weakens or dies, all your spiritual engagements will also suffer. That’s why God is always observing our hearts to see if our faith is still alive and thriving. Faith is what God seeks in any service we render to Him, not merely our appearances. When we come to pray or worship, it should be driven by faith, rather than fear or merely fulfilling a religious duty. Everything we do for God must be backed by the strength and passion of unwavering faith. No matter the duration of our prayers or the number of services we render, if God does not see faith that assures Him we trust in His ability to grant our requests or to make our work fruitful, He will not respond.

It is possible to pray to God without believing that He can fulfil our requests, merely fulfilling a religious obligation. We may work for God while appearing devout, yet our words and lifestyles may indicate that we do not truly believe in Him. Faith in God through Jesus Christ is the principal requirement God looks for in our hearts before accepting our lives and worship. If God does not see faith in our hearts, He will not accept our worship and works, regardless of how long or how many they are. We may come to God in prayer, but if we do not bring faith with us, we are merely playing and not truly praying.

We must never approach God casually or serve Him without intention. All our prayers and services must be accompanied by faith. Faith is indispensable in our relationship with God if we want to please Him. Our faith in God is our weapon of victory over life’s battles. It is our authority over the devil and every challenge we face; it is our comfort and encouragement in times of trouble. Faith is our anchor in every storm, our patience and perseverance in delays, and our shield against the enemy's attacks. Prayer is serious business, so faith must necessarily accompany it always so that God will become part of it and grant us our hearts' desires.
