Galatians 2: 20. I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless, I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Our old selves, including our old identity, image, and habits, were crucified with Christ. When Christ declared "It is finished" on the cross, he signified the end of our old ways and the beginning of a new life of righteousness and glory through His resurrection. Living to please oneself as a believer in Christ is outdated and unrecognized in heaven. Any believer continuing to live for themselves is not known by God and wouldn't walk in a covenant relationship with such a person.
Christ's presence and influence must be evident in our lives and actions. We should reflect Christ's glory, character, and power in everything we do. Christ saved us to be a vessel for His glory and intended for us to manifest His power for the salvation of others. If we are not living for Christ, we are spiritually dead and making His sacrifice on the cross to be in vain.
Understanding Christ's love for us makes it clear that living for Him is not optional, but a mandate. No one has ever shown greater love than Christ who gave His entire life to save us. Shouldn't it be reasonable for God to expect us to live to please His Son, Jesus Christ in gratitude for His sacrifice? Living for Christ entails believing His words, following His instructions, and entrusting our whole lives to His leadership.
