Ps 23:4: "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me."
It is important to understand that when David walked through the shadow of death, it was not a punishment for his sin, but rather an experience that deepened his relationship with God. As believers, we need to have an intimate knowledge of God and discern whether His presence is with us. This allows us to recognize any unconfessed sin in our lives and seek God's mercy and forgiveness. We should not rely on our good works or material possessions as evidence of God's presence. If we are living in sin, God's presence cannot coexist with that sin because God is holy and cannot tolerate sin in our lives.
When God guided David through the valley of the shadow of death, He did not leave him to face it alone. Instead, God was with him as his shield and comforter. This is why David could confidently declare that he would fear no evil. Regardless of the challenges we face, we can be certain of God's presence with us. We should hold on to our faith, knowing that God has a glorious plan for us. We can always rely on God's encouragement and comfort in our trials. Ultimately, we will emerge from our trials with greater strength and worth added to our lives.
People who believe that God is with them are not afraid of the troubles they face. They trust that God will always provide a way out. Guided by God's Spirit and His encouragement, they can endure and be patient as God works in their lives.
The challenges we face are not the end, but rather a passage to something greater that God wants to accomplish through us. God will put us through rigorous discipleship and leadership training, especially if He is preparing us to fulfil His purpose. This training may be uncomfortable, but with the Spirit of God within us, we can go through it without losing our faith.
