A personal relationship with Jesus (1)
John 4:42: "And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world."
The Samaritans believed in Jesus because of the woman's testimony after her encounter with Jesus by the well. However, after spending two days with Jesus, they not only believed in Him but also knew that He was the Savior of the world, including them as Samaritans. This teaches us that our first encounter with Jesus for salvation should not be the end of our journey with Him. Rather, it should motivate us to seek more encounters with Him and pursue Him for the rest of our lives. Continuously seeking fellowship with Jesus will help us grow in faith and access the blessings He has given us through His death and resurrection.
While the testimonies of others can motivate us to believe in Jesus, we must develop our encounters with Him to be firmly rooted in faith and truly know Him. Growing in intimate knowledge of the Lord Jesus and hearing Him daily is a personal discipline, responsibility, and right of all believers. If someone claims to be born again but is not seeking to grow their relationship with Him, they are like those who only seek Him for their personal needs and are not devoted to Him. Just like any relationship, our relationship with Jesus requires personal commitment from both parties to grow. Jesus is willing to help us grow in our relationship with Him, but if we are not drawing closer to seek Him always, He won't reveal Himself to us, leaving our lives shrouded in darkness without His guiding light.
