We have this treasure in earthen vessels

2 Corinthians 4:7, states: "But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us." 

Paul uses the metaphor of "earthen vessels" to refer to human beings. The earthen vessels represent the frailty and weakness of human beings, emphasizing that the power and effectiveness of the ministry come from God, not from the individuals themselves.

The purpose of having this treasure in weak vessels is twofold. First, it highlights that the power and glory belong to God alone. By using flawed and weak vessels, God demonstrates that His power is not dependent on our human strength or abilities. It is through His strength working in and through imperfect people that His power is made evident.

Second, this arrangement prevents us from taking credit for the work that God is accomplishing through us. It is supposed to humble us and remind us that we are mere instruments in God's hands. We are not to boast or take pride in our accomplishments but rather acknowledge that any success or impact we have is a result of God's power working through us.

Overall, this verse serves as a reminder of our dependence on God and His power, and the necessity to give God the glory of whatever He is doing through us. It encourages humility and redirects the focus from human achievements to the greatness of God.

The Word, or Logos, became human as God's response to our need for salvation, addressing all our spiritual needs and the limitations we face as humans.
