THE VALUE OF WISDOM
Mat 25:2-4: "And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps."
Five of ten virgins were wise to take along with them extra oil with their lamps, while the other five took no oil with their lamps. Wisdom is knowing what to do for excellent performance. You are not wise if you are not doing what is expected of you well or if you are doing things shabbily. Excellent work is the proof of wisdom in a man. The virgins who are wise knew that the bridegroom in the person of the Lord Jesus may delay His coming, for they knew Him to be patient towards man, not willing that anyone should perish, but that all will come to repentance, so they prepared for the eventuality. But the five other virgins who are foolish were not prepared for the possible occurrence of the delay of the bridegroom. Those who fail where they ought not to fail hate knowledge, but everyone wise is a merchant of knowledge. When they found out that the bridegroom was late, they quickly went to get extra oil, but it was too late, the bridegroom arrived in their absence and the wise virgins who were ready went with Him and the door was shut. There is no quick or fast preparation for success. If you desire success in life and in what you are doing, preparation should be your daily exercise. Wisdom is having the foresight of the things you need to be successful and learning them ahead. Having a gift, skill, or anointing is not enough to be successful, continuity in acquiring knowledge in the area of your calling or vocation is a vital requirement in the rule of success. It is the wisdom that separates the wise from the fools. All the virgins have lamps with oil in them, but only the five who are wise have extra oil with them. The extra efforts that you make to add more knowledge to your skill, gifts, and anointing is what is going to single you out as a wise man and help you to achieve more than others. It is by preparing extraordinarily to be used more by God in your calling that is going to make you achieve extraordinarily. If you are easily satisfied with what you know or have seen, and are too lazy to dig deeper or to learn more, you will remain at the base. Acquiring more knowledge on what we already know or about the gifts we possess are the gateway to success and more success. We must continue learning in our job and vocation if we want to remain relevant and marketable. If you are not adding more knowledge to yourself in the area of your skills and gifts, you will be depreciating in worth, you will not accomplish more as you ought to, and those who are better than you will be put ahead of you. You have signed up for a lifetime acquisition of knowledge in the area of your skill unknowingly if you possess any gifts, grace, or anointing from God. And failure to do so will make the gift unproductive in your life. The more you grow by adding knowledge to your skills, the more productive and useful you will be. Gaining knowledge will make you far-sighted about what will happen and help you to prepare yourself for it. 2 Peter 1:9. Mental preparedness for the future is a sign of the presence of wisdom in a man. You are not wise if you are not adding knowledge to what you know or to the skills that you have, because those who are wise deal with knowledge.
